Hyderabad’s Infrastructure Makes it a Top Indian City to Live In

According to state government records, the GHMC and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) are currently preparing detailed reports for 12 projects, at a total cost of Rs 12,044 crores.

This news comes in light of the COVID pandemic, as reportedly the current infrastructure has not been impacted by the pandemic which has unfortunately resulted in many other sectors incurring losses.

But on the flip side, the pandemic allowed the state to work on infrastructure projects due to no restrictions. Projects were worked on round the clock allowing many to be finished before their deadlines.

Hyderabad Infrastructure Projects

Recent, current and future infrastructure projects in Hyderabad seek to improve basic amenities, reduce traffic woes, reduce air pollution, and keep in mind future needs of the city

Strategic airport location

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is just a two hour flight distance from many major cities, and just four hours away from the Middle East and South-East Asia. The airport is well-equipped to handle large aircrafts and international traffic, with its world-class infrastructure.

From areas like Mehdipatnam, the P. V. Narasimha Rao Expressway can be used to reach the airport. This elevated flyover or elevated road is 11.66 km long and is said to be the longest one in Asia.

Connected highway

Stretching over 159 km is the 8-lane Outer Ring Road or ORR. with 20 interchange junctions on the ORR, it offers easy connectivity between different parts of the city and state highways. It also helps reduce travel time to and from the city and the airport.

Operational and expanding metro line

The Hyderabad Metro Rail was inaugurated in 2017 with the first phase covering 69.2 km across three corridors from Miyapur to LB Nagar, Jubilee Hills Bus Station (JBS) to MGBS, and Nagole to Raidurg.

While other cities like Bangalore and Chennai have metro lines running underground in addition to above ground, Hyderabad’s metro lines are all elevated, adding to the city landscape’s view

GMR will reportedly invest Rs 500 crore in the metro rail link project to the Hyderabad airport. The total cost is estimated to be Rs 5,000 crore. This line will connect various parts of the city to the airport aerodrome. The link is expected to span 31 km in total.

Road development

Flyovers, underpasses, corridors and road over bridges are several undertakings by the state to reduce congestion, minimize travel time, and increase journey speeds.

As part of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is building 20 major infrastructure projects totalling Rs 4,741 crore. Four of the flyovers under construction this year will be opened in Kondapur, Shaikpet, Balanagar, Bairamalguda, and Owaisi Junction.

“The flyover crossing Seven Tombs and Whisper Valley junction, LB Nagar flyover and Bairamalguda flyover will be inaugurated this December,” a GHMC official told Telangana Today.
